First Lady Theresa Y. Hooper

 

Theresa Y. Hooper is the First Lady of St. Luke AME Church in Newark, New Jersey.  

Born and raised Baptist, Theresa attended her local church until 2005 when she 

became a member of Trinity AME church in Long Branch, New Jersey. She quickly 

became acclimated to the AME Church.  She became a member of the Usher 

Board and soon after she served on the Steward Board, Finance Team and as the 

Local YPD Director.  She served as the Asbury Area YPD Director. As Area Director 

she implemented new mission projects and supported the youth wherever 

possible.

 

Theresa became a member of St. Paul AME Church, East Orange and became the 

wife of Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Hooper.  The couple now serves as Pastor and First Lady 

of St. Luke AME Church in Newark, NJ.

 

Theresa received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management Information 

Systems from Seton Hall University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration.  With those degrees under her belt and decades of non-profit management and software development and administration, she later started her own consulting business named OnBOARD Strategies, LLC focusing on Business Organization Alignment Restructure and Development. She has helped many businesses and individuals become more organized and proficient in their areas of weakness.

 

Theresa is extremely devoted to the work of the Women’s Missionary Society of 

the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the investment of youth. 

 

Her favorite scripture is “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto 

thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct 

thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
